If you’re buying or selling a house, a real estate agent can help you in many ways. Buying or selling a house is way more complicated than it seems. An agent can navigate those muddy waters for you. Here are some ways to find a real estate agent that is right for you.
Ask for Recommendations
The first step toward finding a good real estate agent is to ask friends, family, and neighbors for recommendations. After you’ve received at least three names, check out their websites and search for additional customer reviews.
Check References
Contact the three agents whom you see as being a possible fit. Ask them for references from clients within the last year. Yes, we understand references may seem hollow — no one will give you the name of a client that didn’t like them — but it still offers a bit more clarity about the agent.
Ask Questions
Create a list of questions for the real estate agents. Contact the three real estate agents and ask them each question. Here are some examples of questions you might ask:
- Will the agent be working with you or their assistants?
- How much will the agent get paid?
- What licenses does the agent have?
- How often will the agent communicate with you and how will they do that? Phone calls? Texts? Emails?
- How long have they been a real estate agent?
Do One Thing: After asking your questions, review the answers from each real estate agent and pick the one that seems best suited for you.
