How to save money on homeowner’s insurance

Home insurance isn’t getting any cheaper. In fact, according to one report, the average homeowner’s insurance premium is likely to increase by nine percent this year. That’s up from a seven percent increase from 2021 to 2022. Thankfully, there are ways you can save on this insurance. Here are some things to try.

Search for Discounts

Often insurance companies have deals and discounts, you just have to be willing to find them. For example, installing new smoke detectors or an alarm system could net you a discounted rate. Also, check about bundling different types of insurance. That is often an easy way to reduce your overall payments.

Up Your Defense

If you live in an area that has a high risk of natural disasters, you can lower your premiums by improving your home’s protections. That means installing storm doors, pruning large nearby trees, and more.

Cover the Build

You need enough homeowners insurance to cover the cost of rebuilding your home. Construction costs have risen over the past few years, so make sure you’ve got enough. Similarly, make sure you’re not paying for more insurance than you need.

Shop Around

Just because you’ve had one policy for years doesn’t make it the right one. Shop around for the best value. Get at least three quotes. If you find a better homeowners insurance policy somewhere new, don’t be shy about making a change.
