Go Big

Items you should always buy in bulk

According to a study from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, groceries are going to get more expensive. The report suggested prices will likely increase between 1.5 percent and 2.5 percent during the next year. One way to save on groceries is to buy things in bulk. Here’s some items that are usually worth buying big.

Baking Staples

If you bake, buy the supplies in bulk. Flour, baking powder, sugar and more will last at least a year in a pantry.

Canned Foods

Canned foods — from pasta sauce to tuna to soups — last forever. Seriously. As long as the cans are in good condition (no rust, dents, etc.) the FDA says canned goods are safe “indefinitely.”

Diapers

If you have young children, you know how expensive diapers can be. One recent report found that parents will spend between $70 to $80 per month — roughly $900 a year — on diapers for one child. It would behoove you to buy diapers in bulk. As US News reports, try a “subscribe and save” diaper-buying option like the one from Target. Doing so will save you about five percent overall.

Dog Food

Many people adopted dogs during the pandemic, and that’s great. But feeding dogs can be expensive. In fact, the average price-per-pound for dog food increased from 2019-2020. Do yourself a favor and buy Spot’s food in bulk. Unopened dry dog food can last for more than a year.
