Staying Well During Cold and Flu Season

Staying Well During Cold and Flu Season

Ways to prep for and manage flu season.

Cold and flu season is here.

Getting sick is already fun, but it can also impact your finances. If you’re missing work, you may get behind. If you’re an hourly employee, no work means no money. Here are some tips to help you manage the cold and flu season.

Wash Your Hands

The simplest defense against the flu is also one of the most effective: Washing your hands. Be sure to scrub them with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Get a Shot

You should make it a habit to get a flu shot every flu season. In most cases, it’s covered by health insurance and available at your local pharmacy or doctor’s office. The flu vaccine is like insurance: You’ll be happy you have it if you get sick. It can drastically reduce the impact of the virus.

Get Plenty of Rest

Your body’s immune system depends on some good, solid sleep to fight against infections. Try to get between seven and nine hours of sleep every night.

Exercise

Another way to boost your body’s defenses is to exercise. Make it a goal to exercise at 20 minutes a day. It doesn’t even have to be anything intense. Simply going for a walk is enough.

Do One Thing: Get a flu vaccine each flu season.
