Are Organic Foods Worth the Price?

Are Organic Foods Worth the Price?

Weighing the costs and benefits of organic foods.

Everyone wants to eat as healthily as possible. One of the ways you might do that is to buy organic food. However, sometimes organic food comes at a steeper price than regular food. So, is organic food worth it? Let’s take a look.

What’s Worth It

Now that we have a better understanding of what organic means, here are some foods that might be worth the extra price because they’re organic:

  • Meats
  • Eggs
  • Produce
  • Dairy

Each of these items, when organic, has been found to have a slightly higher nutritional value than its non-organic counterparts. There’s also the case for animal welfare, as organic farming is better for animals in general.

What’s Not Worth It

Here are some organic items that are not worth the extra cost:

  • Canned goods
  • Packaged snacks
  • Frozen foods

In each of these cases, the non-organic versions are just as good for you as the organic versions.

Make Your Choice

Food is a personal choice. When shopping:

  • Do your best to make smart choices for you and your family.
  • You should always consider your and your family’s health.
  • You should also consider the impact on your wallet and budget.

Studies have shown that sometimes organic food just isn’t worth it.

Do One Thing: For a good mix, balance your grocery shopping with organic and non-organic foods.
